Overlanding vehicles need to be self sufficient, able to endure and handle rough terraine without getting stuck, and most will have somewhere comfortable to sleep. Accomodation could take the shape of a tent, living space within a van or roof tent on a four wheel drive vehicle.
Four wheel drive vehicles are popular, such as Toyota Landcruisers, Landrover Discoveries or similar. The Unimog, as shown here, is another common vehicle as it has the four wheel drive and endurance capabilities but also allows a comfortable living quarters. Vans are very common, preferably four wheel drive, with the expedition look being quite popular for vans.
